The Purple Sea

Nearly reaching it,
I cannot feel it yet.
The more I become aware,
the more the shadows become inseparable.
I grasp at
grains of blue sand with my left hand.
You have an unknown seed in your breast.
Nearly reaching it,
I cannot so much as touch it yet.
The more I watch it,
the more the purple sea ebbs away.
The topaz-yellow sky
opens its mouth to drop words
which strew the sand and
stick to my feet.
Picking the baby up,
I hold her tightly.

Look close the aim of the rose window’s light
As it shower’s a queen swathed in silver,
Gold, and white: Hush the babes to be polite
For the bride enters; nature brings her
Flowing trousseau beautifully refined
That betrays the one answer in her mind.
Words whisper among all the young maidens
In praise and awe of a lady so kind
Whose steadfast moonstone virtues calmly spin
A fine web of harmony, love, and kin.
O hymn, bright hymn, song of angel trumpets
Call on he who is the sun to witness
The birth of faith that love doth profess.
And bless this union lest the world forgets
How precious and just is a marriage kiss;
Hosannah! for the bride on her day of bliss.
So evermore will sweet flowers perfume
This wedding day when all our willow trees did bloom.
